Kevin ‘Trail Blazer’ Holland just set the world on fire, after viscously knocking out the former middleweight Strikeforce Champion, Ronaldo ‘Jacaré’ Souza, at UFC 256 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Not only is this Kevin’s 5th win in a row, it’s also his 5th victory inside the octagon in just a one year period. This win ties him with Roger Huerta, and Neil Magny, in having the most UFC wins in a calendar year.
Also known as Big Mouth, Holland has been one of the most entertaining fighters on the UFC roster. With his witty jokes accompanied by an evil grin, Holland is turning into one of the most dangerous men in the UFC’s middleweight division. Since his UFC debut, he’s won 8 out of 10 fights inside the octagon, finished 6 of those opponents, and he’s just getting started. Holland comes with a diverse set of weapons holding a black belt in kung fu, as well as a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Travis Lutter. This guy has a very unique style that’s accompanied with crispy striking, as well as a dangerous ground game.
In his fight against Jacaré, he was able to push Jacaré off while on his back, to then landing a devastating knockout punch as he was trying to stand up. Not to mention, this all happened early on in the very first round! We’ve never seen a knockout like this before; Holland was basically coming off a scramble, and was able to land a powerful blow knocking Jacaré out cold. He hit Jacaré so hard he was still passing out on the stool moments after the fight ended. Holland was able to fight off Jacarés relentless grappling attack, as well as finish him at his own game. I wouldn’t be surprised if Holland just ended Jacaré’s career, which would be a golden feather under his cap. After seeing a finish like this, and winning five fights in one calendar year, I truly believe Kevin Holland should be nominated as fighter of the year. No other fighter has done what he’s done in 2020; I mean who else can even come close?
