It has been exactly one year since UFC light heavyweight top contender, Thiago ‘Marreta’ Santos, 21W 7L, has stepped inside the octagon, as he will be returning in September to face Glover Teixeira, 31W 7L. Santos confirmed he has accepted and signed the bout agreement, after posting a picture of the executed contract on his Instagram. This is going to be an interesting match up between two MMA warriors who have more than a few things in common. Both men are from Brazil holding Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts, same height, same reach; each with 7 losses, as well as both having faced the reining light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. Not to mention, both men are outstanding on the feet and on the ground, wherever the fight goes, they will be evenly matched. Santos will more than likely be favored in this one, especially after that battle he had with Jones where he lost a razor sharp split decision. It was the closest anyone has gotten to beating Jones on the scorecards, and the fans have been anticipating a rematch between the two for quite some time. Santos will first have to get through the veteran in Teixeira, before another shot at the light heavyweight title. Teixeira doesn’t plan on becoming a stepping stone for anyone, as he’s been on a 4 fight win-streak, and making what appears to be his last title run in his mixed martial arts career. Both men are determined, knowing a win can lead to a shot at the champion, so it’s very likely both men will be looking for the finish throughout the entire fight. This match-up has Fight of the Night written all over it, and as a huge fan of both fighters, I really cannot wait to see this one play out!
