Sanda is a free combat, Chinese martial art which is also referred to as Chinese Boxing. Regarded as the official full contact combat sport in China, Sanda is based on traditional kung fu as well as modern day combat techniques. The Chinese military developed the system, incorporating close range rapid punches and kicks along with full contact kickboxing. There is also a lot of wrestling with takedowns, hipthrows, shoulder throws and sweeps. The Chinese government developed a standard curriculum for Sanda, which is usually taught alongside Wushu to help develop the sport of Wushu, thereby calling it Wushu Sanda. Current UFC Strawweight Champion, Weili Zhang is a known Sanda practitioner since the age of 12.
