Starring: Donnie Yen
Directed By: Wilson Yip
Year: 2007
Donnie Yen shows us why he’s still one of the best martial artist on film today in the action packed box office hit, Flash Point. If you are a fan of mixed martial arts this one will definitively satisfy the well-rounded hunger. Yen plays a police sergeant, Ma Jun, who sets out to take down a triad led by 3 Vietnamese brothers, Archer, Tony, and Tiger (Collin Chou, Lui Leung-wai, and Xing Yu). Jun’s partner Wilson, (Louis Koo), has been a mole, undercover since the start of the film; however the brothers would eventually find out and capture him. There are great fight scenes in this film and there are amazing fight sequences to go with it. It wasn’t the typical display of punches and kicks, sergeant Jun appeared to also be a jiu-jitsu specialist showcasing some wizardry on the ground. He utilizes all of his tools including the triangle on the last boss which was executed while throwing strikes off his back. A very enjoyable display of mixed martial arts from the start to finish of this film. I immediately started to train my ground game more after watching this one. Another 5 out of 5 stars, this film would land on my top 15 best action films of all time if I had such a list.
