It’s been 6 straight wins for the UFC featherweight, Dan “50k” Ige, who recently edged out his last win against one of the best strikers in the game, Edson Barbosa. Barbosa, 20W 9L, who recently dropped down from the lightweight division, came in strong and dropped Ige in the first, clearly winning the round. Ige has a warfare mentality; when he gets hit he usually gives one back and it showed in that first round. Barbosa caught him with another hard shot that pushed him back towards the cage but Ige retaliated. Ige bounced forward and landed a flying Knee which caused a hematoma on Barbosa’s chin. 2nd round was harder to score; Ige was winning the round getting the better of Barbosa with the striking. Towards the end of the round Barbosa landed a knee to the body to end up on top with some mean ground and pound. Judges could have easily given that round to Barbosa, but only one of the three did. Third round was clearly Ige’s he stayed more busy, landed the more significant hard strikes and got the take down in which he capitalized with some nasty ground and pound. In the end it would be Ige to come out the victor via split decision. Many fighters and Dana White himself verbally expressed how they thought Barbosa won 2 to 1, and it was Barbosa that should’ve won the 2nd round. Needless to say this makes it 6 in a row for Ige and he said with his own words he wants the Yair’s, the Stephen’s, the Kattar’s, the Zombie’s, “I want the best guys” during his post victory speech with Paul Felder. After seeing him stand up against Barbosa, who’s a natural lightweight, and was clearly the larger fighter, Dan “50k” Ige is on his way to swimming with the sharks at the top of the featherweight division.
