It was another great night of fights in Jacksonville, Florida where UFC hosted a mixed martial arts show which featured a 5 round light heavyweight main event between Glover Teixeira and Anthony “Lionheart” Smith. Teixeira, 31W 6L, was able to finish Smith, 33W 15L, late in the 5th round, after a grueling war which displayed the highest levels of mixed martial arts. Teixeira is longtime 2nd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; he’s a 7th degree black belt in Kajukenbo and also is a black belt in Luta Livre. One of his most notable wins early in his career was when he knocked out the legendary Sokoudjou in the 2nd round at a WEC event in 2006. He’s won his last four UFC fights at light heavyweight; three of them have been finishes, and two were performance of the night bonuses. Teixeira is 40 years young and has been dominating the sport of MMA for almost 20 years. A well known fan of Mike Tyson and considered one of the best boxers in MMA, Teixeira has a terrifying stand up game. He forces guys to go for a take down after his relentless attacks on the feet. This then usually puts his opponents in an even worse position, for he tends to capitalize on his ground game. He wen’t on a 20 fight win streak before facing the current defending light heavyweight champion, Jon Bones Jones. Teixeira lost the championship match up via unanimous decision, and since then he’s won 9 out of 13 bouts. If Jon Jones remains the champ it’s very likely we will see a second match up between the two in the near future. After such an impressive victory against a guy in Lionheart who was at the top of the division, it’s very likely Glover Teixeira’s next fight will be another shot at the title.
