Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza has been forced to pull out of his scheduled fight due to testing positive for COVID-19. Souza, 26W 8L 1NC, was scheduled to fight Uriah Hall, 15W 9L, on the UFC 249 preliminary bouts, which are supposed to takes place tonight, May 9, 2020. The event is still underway and who knows if there will be a replacement for Hall given the circumstances. One fighter, out of 24, testing positive before an event is one too many however it’s not a bad statistic. Souza could have contracted the virus from anyone and anywhere outside the organization. Many will argue otherwise and blame the UFC for putting their fighters at risk during a time when everyone should be home during a social distancing quarantine. Nevertheless, the UFC made sure all their fighters were tested, and took the necessary steps when one of their own came out positive. This is a very cautious uncertain era in human civilization marking history as it unfolds. Fight promoters, fighters, and fans cannot predict what’s next to come during this pandemic, but everyone will agree we still want to see fights. Many blessings to Souza and his family; hoping he gets well soon and back in the cage when he’s ready.
